Los Angeles based former celebrity talent managerLoreeRodkin,and her brand of gothic meets glam antique jewelry, has evolved from an industry favorite of rock stars and actress - everyone from Cher to Sharon Osborne and Katie Perry to Madonna have donned her designs, to globally recognizable brand. Rodkin became a house-hold name when she designed the Inaugural jewels for First Lady, Michelle Obama –which will be on permanent display at theSmithsonian.Her latest collection has shifted from heavier metal pieces and darker themes to white gold and turquoise with pave diamonds. The Carat Diet caught up with Rodkin while the designer was in Paris to find out what is currently making her tick.
What was your inspiration for this collection?
The 60’s. Edie Sedgwick in the 60’s.
Can you share with us some trends you have been noticing on the Red Carpet this Spring, or out and about on your travels?
Larger, bolder jewelry.
Do you try and attend all the fashion weeks in NY and Europe every season?
Since I have to be in LA for awards season, I rarely go to the NY shows. I go straight to Paris twice a year.
Are you working on anything special for any clients right now that you can share with us?
I’m always working on something special for clients. Today, I’m making something for Steven Tyler to wear on American Idol.
What is your favorite city to shop for jewelry or inspiration?
I collect French art deco jewelry, so that would be Paris.
