Hospitality entrepreneurs and partners Jeremy Umland and Max Russo, of Ozumo restaurant in San Francisco fame, have opened their first private social club, 41 Ocean in Santa Monica by the sea.

Up until last weekend, Soho House on Sunset was the only private members club in LA worth considering an investment in your precious time and money. 41 Ocean is the beachy, fun version of the Westside’s first members only club, complete with a full service restaurant, cocktail lounge, piano bar, performance stage, and screening room.

The vibe is more casual with mosaic tile floors, reclaimed wood and an open air feel but with luxury design components that give 41 Ocean an air of being somewhere in the Cote d’Azur or off the beach near the Copacabana in Rio. The club’s interior design was executed by Matt Winter who co-designed both Oldfield's and Sassafras’ southern hospitality charm, yet here he honors the 1920-30’s Spanish Colonial Revival Style while adding custom furniture, vintage décor and the odd Matador bull fighting poster.

In the kitchen, you’ll find Chef Chris Crary from Whist at the Viceroy Santa Monica, and a 'fan favorite' from Top Chef Season 9, executing California contemporary cuisine. Specialties will include canapé spreads such as bone marrow with Fresno chili, galangal, and sunchoke on spiced brioche. Guest can also look forward innovative dishes such as Parmesan gnocchi with lamb neck bolognese or venison loin with salsify, coffee-coco crumble, huckleberry, and shiso.

General Manager Matt Landes hails from The Montage Beverly Hills and the Corporate Beverage Consultant, Noah Ellis from Red Medicine has kept the craft cocktail movement alive and well. Another plus will be the wine lockers where members can store their favorite vintages for future gatherings.

Members will also enjoy dog friendly Sunday brunches and an intimate screening room that will broadcast classic movie nights and Sunday football, as well as provide a private workspace for important meetings and power lunches. The piano bar will evoke memories of speakeasy days, and the lounge will showcase paintings and photography from local artists as part of the club’s ‘artist in residence’ program. www.41OceanClub.com
